Game 162: A day after clinching the NL East crown, the
#StLCard (101-60) host Reggie Patterson (2-0) and the Chicago Cubs (76-84) in a hangover game to close out the season. The Redbirds have gone 14-3 against the Cubbies this year in dethroning them as kings of the NL re 5-13. Quite a difference! The lineup:
Ford-7
Braun-8
Pendleton-5
Clark-3
Van Slyke-9
Porter-2
DeJesús-6
Lawless-4
Andujar (21-11)
Andujar only pitches 1.1 innings in a tuneup for postseason, and Kurt Kepshire relieves him and goes for 3.2 innings. Both give up three runs. After Ricky Horton throws a scoreless inning, Bill Campbell allows two more before Doug Bair and Joe Boever close things out.
Along the way, the Cards manage two runs on an RBI double by Curt Ford in the third, and a sacrifice fly by Iván DeJesús in the seventh.
An 8-2 game ends in just two hours and twenty minutes. On to the postseason!
