Shri Sushil Kumar Lohani, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj, shared key insights on the Panchayat Advancement Index (
#PAI) and the role of data-driven rural governance in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals at the International Workshop on Peer Learning on ews (VNRs) and National SDG Pathways, organized by GIZ India in partnership with NITI Aayog and ESCAP in New Delhi today.
He highlighted the constitutional mandate of Panchayats under the 73rd Amendment and underlined the importance of effective devolution of funds, functions and functionaries for responsive grassroots governance.
Emphasizing Panchayats as vital institutions of local self-government, he outlined their central role in achieving
#SDGs through inclusive development aligned with the vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, and shared India’s thematic approach to SDG localization
#LSDGs.
He also flagged key challenges in strengthening the Panchayat Advancement Index, particularly around data standardization, visualization and building a robust grassroots data ecosystem.
