When Seconds Matter: Mega Search & Rescue Exercise Unfolds off Porbandar Coast
In a
#powerful #display of
#preparedness and
#coordination, the @Ind
@iaCoastGuard (#I#ICG) successfully conducted a large-scale Regional Search and Rescue Exercise (
#SAREX) off the
#coast of
#Porbandar. The gthen response capabilities, enhance inter-agency coordination, and reaffirm India’s commitment to maritime safety and saving lives at
#sea.
The high-intensity drill witnessed active participation from multiple maritime stakeholders, including the
#IndianNavy,
#INMCC, Airports Authority of India (
#AAI),
#VTS,
#GujaratMaritimeBoard,
#MarinePolice, and the Department of
#Fisheries. Together with Coast Guard
#ships and
#aircraft, these agencies demonstrated seamless coordination in a unified operational framework.Participating units acted as Search and Rescue Units (SRUs) and
#Medical Support Ships, deploying trained teams for first aid and casualty evacuation. Coast Guard vessels also showcased advanced firefighting operations near the simulated crash site, underlining their capability to handle complex, multi-dimensional emergencies.
The exercise revolved around a Mass Search and Rescue (M-SAR) scenario involving a simulated aircraft ditching at sea. The Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (
#MRSC) functioned as the Incident Command Post, working closely with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre to ensure swift decision-making, real-time
#communication, and operational efficiency.

The

#survivor grouping, and coordinated recovery
#operations. During the
#harbour phase, emergency response extended ashore with triage demonstrations, supported by
#ambulance services and medical teams—replicating real-world
#crisis handling with precision.
The Indian Coast Guard is entrusted with coordinating Search and Rescue operations across India’s vast Search and Rescue Region (
#SRR), covering nearly 4.6
#million square
#kilometres. Exercises like
#SAREX play a crucial role in maintaining operational readiness, validating response systems, and enhancing
#collaboration among maritime agencies.
The successful execution of SAREX off Porbandar stands as a testament to the ICG’s unwavering dedication to maritime
#safety. It not only reinforced inter-
#agency synergy but also set a
#strong #benchmark for coordinated emergency response along the
#Gujarat coast under the Coast Guard Region (
#NorthWest).
