People talk about the Enuma Elish as if it’s the same as the Sumerian Tablets. It’s not. The Enuma Elish was a rebranding of the much earlier Sumerian creation story. And the Biblical Genesis was just a rebrand of the Enuma Elish. It’s pretty messed up actually. King Hammurabi wanted to make up-and-coming Babylon the center of the universe, so he took Marduk, who was a lesser god in Sumerian history, and turned him into the ‘God of Creation’ and made Babylon his home. It was a complete fabrication and PR stunt for the city. In the original Sumerian tablets, Marduk is a local deity with a minor role while Anu, Enlil and Enki are the ‘Gods’. So you can see how a civilization can twist an earlier story, turn it into a new religion and create a new ‘God’. Wonder how many times this has happened throughout history 🤔
