The Geological Survey of India (GSI) organized a lecture session on “Alkaline Rocks from the Deccan Large Igneous Province: Petrology, Geochemistry and Mineralisation” on 27th March 2026 in hybrid mode at State Unit: Kerala & Lakshadweep.
The session featured an insightful lecture by Prof. N. V. Chalapathi Rao, Director, National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS), who elaborated on the petrological and geochemical characteristics of alkaline rocks associated with the Deccan Large Igneous Province. The lecture also highlighted their mineralisation potential, offering valuable perspectives on their origin, evolutionary processes, and economic significance.
The programme was attended by Shri Asit Saha, Director General, GSI; Dr. Joyesh Bagchi, ADG PSS, Dr. S. Ravi, Dy. DG & Head, Mission-V and Shri R. Balaji, Dy.DG (RTDs & FTCs), GSITI through VC, along with Dr. V. Ambili, Dy. DG, GSI, State Unit: Kerala & Lakshadweep, senior officials and other participants from GSI, various organizations, academia across the country.
