⭕️ Black philosophy professor sues Texas State after firing over off-campus Palestine talk Idris Robinson, a tenure-track philosophy professor and the only Black philosophy professor at Texas State University, has sued university officials alleging his constitutional rights were ol terminated his contract. The termination followed a social media campaign by pro-Israel activists over a talk he gave at a North Carolina anarchist book fair in June 2024, the Guardian reported Wednesday. Robinson did not identify himself as affiliated with Texas State during the talk. Robinson's lawsuit alleges violations of his First and Fourteenth Amendment rights, and he is seeking a temporary restraining order to halt his firing in May.

The trend in higher ed that should be written abt is how univ admins have slide from far end of technocratic managerialism to authoritarianism in parallel w/this country all the while the centrist liberals who occupy these postitions act like they’re democracy’s defenders.

Please think about the opportunity cost of that PhD. Yes, you’ll have a few years to think and read. But you’ll also be socialised into a cult that will likely expel you after you’ve given it your best years. Or it will keep you on as a marginal servant of sorts. I just got lucky
