Ocean acidification is not just an environmental issue. It’s a sustainable development challenge sitting at the nexus of climate change, food security, and human rights. As highlighted by the @WMO on the #StateOfClimate 2025 report, declining ocean pH is already reshaping marine don’t stay in the ocean. They have ripple effects across multiple SDGs. 💰 SDG 1 No Poverty & SDG 8 Decent work & Economic Growth 🍽️ SDG 2 Zero Hunger 🏙️ SDG 11 Sustainable Cities & Communities 🐠 SDG 14 Life Below Water ☮︎ SDG 16 Peace & Strong Institutions 🌊 In summary: Combatting climate change and restoring ocean health is essential to achieving the SDGs for people and planet. 2️⃣ In 2025, ocean heat content (to a depth of 2,000m) reached the highest level since the start of records in 1960, exceeding the previous high set in 2024. @WMO #StateOfClimate

🔴New@WMO #StateOfClimate report shows that Earth’s climate is more out of balance than at any time in observed history, as greenhouse gas concentrations drive continued warming of the atmosphere and ocean and melting of ice. Read our thread for 5⃣ key ocean takeaways ⤵️c

.@WMO’s Global #StateOfClimate unveils the state of the climate system in 2025 It highlights that the Earth's Energy Imbalance has reached its highest value since the beginning of the observational record in 1960. Heat has been accumulating in the Earth’s system: in the ocean, and in frozen regions of the planet. As a result, the total amount of heat stored on Earth is not just increasing but accelerating. The report also cites research findings from the projects of @ESA's Climate Change Initiative, which show that the highest global mean sea surface temperatures ever recorded in satellite data were measured in 2023-24.🌡️These changes are causing severe ecosystem damage, undermining coastal livelihoods, increasing extreme weather risks and weakening the ocean’s capacity to absorb carbon. BREAKING AND URGENT: According to the World Meteorological Organization #StateOfClimate 2025 report released yesterday, the Earth’s climate system is now more out of balance than at any point in recorded history. 🌡️ The past 11 years have been the hottest on record 🌊 Thout 18x the annual human energy use every year over the past two decades 📉 Ocean pH continues to decline leading to increased acidification, with levels now unprecedented and passing a planetary boundary From food security to livelihoods, these changes are already reshaping communities, ecosystems, and security worldwide. The science is clear: now is the moment for URGENT action to reduce GHG and Carbon Emissions and safeguard the ocean (and our water planet) for the stability of future generations.
