I cannot stop thinking about Mirabel.
A tiny, defenseless puppy in Texas who was choked with a belt, pinned by her neck, kicked in the face, and beaten on camera. Four months old. Eleven pounds. Sick, weak, and unable to fight back.
Even with clear video evidence, the District AO refused to press charges. Mirabel never got justice.
Across Texas, other cases with video evidence have led to arrests: El Paso, Hunt County, Odessa, Van Zandt, Webb, and Dallas. Prosecutors acted. But in Harris County, documented cruelty can go unpunished.
I have emailed the DA, the mayor, every Houston City Council member, my Texas House representatives, and my Texas senator. I will keep speaking up until someone does the right thing.
Mirabel deserved protection. She deserved accountability. She deserved charges to be filed.
I am not letting this go.
