The reason was his deep admiration after reading the Bengali science book Mahakasher f Space). As the conversation flowed, the name of Father Gore came up. The French Father Goreux was a student of Einstein! My father (Sankar Ghosh) and Bishnupada Babu were both students of Father Goreux. In that sense, my father was a student of Einstein’s student! Father Goreux taught at St. Xavier’s College. He also came as a visiting faculty to teach my father and his classmates at the postgraduate level at Ballygunge Science College, where he taught one of the most challenging branches of mathematics—Differential Geometry. Bishnupada Babu himself writes on science and has several science books to his credit. He said, “Your father had to be a student of Father Goreux—otherwise how could a book of such high calibre as Mahakasher Jyamiti have been written!” What could I possibly say in response? Over the last twenty-five years, I have lost count of how many phone calls I have received regarding Mahakasher Jyamiti, and how many people have come to our home to meet my father because of this book.
