I campaigned on a commitment to create the Department of Community Safety, an unprecedented, whole-of-government approach to making sure every New Yorker is safe in our city. We just took a major step towards achieving it. Today, I signed an Executive Order creating the Office of Community Safety, led by our new Deputy Mayor Renita Francois. This office will focus on preventing gun-violence, meeting mental health crises with trained professionals, exploring innovative approaches to crime prevention, tackling hate crimes, and supporting survivors.
