SAHPRA has recalled specific batches of Citro-Soda Regular due to potential contamination risks at the Adcock Ingram Clayville facility.
Affected Products
The recall is limited to Citro-Soda Regular in the following formats: 60g, 120g, and numbers starting with the letter “C”, all produced at the Clayville, Johannesburg facility. Products manufactured at other facilities, including those in India, and other variants such as cranberry flavor, are not affected.
Reason for Recall
The recall follows a whistleblower report that revealed serious non-compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards at the Clayville plant. SAHPRA conducted a thorough inspection and assessment, confirming potential contamination risks, which prompted the recall to protect public health. The issue was also highlighted in a Carte Blanche exposé earlier this year.
Consumer Guidance
SAHPRA urges consumers who have purchased affected Citro-Soda Regular products to return them to the point of purchase for a refund or exchange. Consumers are also encouraged to report any quality defects they encounter in health products to SAHPRA.
