#PS5 prices rise globally amid higher costs, supply issues and

Sony has announced a global price increase for its PlayStation 5 consoles, including the PS5, PS5 Pro and PlayStation Portal, due to rising costs and global economic pressure.
The new ffect from April 2, 2026. In the US, the standard PS5 will now cost $649.99, while the Digital Edition will be priced at $599.99 after a $100 increase. The PS5 Pro will cost $899.99, which is $150 more than before.
Sony said the price hike is due to higher production costs and problems in global supply chains. Ongoing conflicts involving Iran and Ukraine, along with US tariffs, have added to the pressure.
Another key issue is supply shortages. QatarEnergy recently said a shutdown could reduce global helium supply by 14%. Helium is important for making computer chips, so a shortage can increase manufacturing costs.
Prices of key components like RAM have also gone up due to high demand driven by artificial intelligence.
Sony is not the only company raising prices. Nintendo increased prices of its Switch console last year, and Microsoft has also raised prices of Xbox consoles and accessories.
Prices have been increased in other regions too. In the UK, the PS5 will cost £569.99, while in Europe it will be €649.99. In Japan, it will be priced at ¥97,980. Sony has asked customers in other regions to check local prices.
This is not the first price hike. Sony had already increased PS5 prices last year. Now, the starting price of the console has gone up from $500 at launch in 2020 to $600.
The price increase comes just months before the expected release of Grand Theft Auto VI, which is likely to increase demand for gaming consoles.
