#NETSnippet | A massive 12-ton shipment of Nestlé’s Crunch KitKat bars has been stolen in Europe, raising fears of a chocolate shortage just ahead of Easter.
Nestlé confirmed to news agency AFP that a truck carrying 413,793 units of its new chocolate range vanished last week production and distribution sites. The vehicle had departed from a factory in central Italy and was headed to Poland when it was stolen.
“We’ve always encouraged people to have a break with KitKat,” a company spokesperson quipped, referencing the brand’s famous slogan. “But it seems thieves have taken the message too literally and made a break with more than 12 tons of our chocolate.”
Nestlé said investigations are ongoing in collaboration with local authorities and supply chain partners. The company warned that the missing bars could enter unofficial sales channels across European markets, potentially disrupting supply for consumers during the Easter season.
To track the stolen goods, Nestlé noted that each bar carries a unique batch code that can be scanned to verify authenticity. If a match is found, instructions will be provided to alert the company, which will then share evidence with the authorities.
The unusual “chocolaty heist” has drawn widespread attention, with retailers bracing for possible shortages of KitKats on shelves in the coming weeks.
