What the #Leafs could realistically obtain for a diminishing asset such as Auston Matthews would largely depend on the trading partner. If it’s a true contender that looks at Auston as the final piece, #Toronto would deserve two first-round picks (unprotected) and a top prospect. #Utah - promising yet still not near the summit - wants Matthews to continue building, it wouldn’t offer as much. This will be a critical move for whoever is managing the Leafs in the summer. If Matthews wants out - or, more likely, is encouraged to consider a trade - moving him should be paramount. Mainly to avoid a repeat of the Mitch Marner nonsense from last season. If Auston is similarly allowed to hold the Leafs at gunpoint, it won’t end well for the hockey club.
