Chris Bowen fronted an interview yesterday and, true to form, blamed everyone but himself and his government for the fuel situation.
The public was blamed. Farmers were blamed for bulk buying despite the obvious reality that they need fuel to harvest summer crops and begin e war was blamed. Just about everything except the decisions coming out of his own portfolio.
He also took aim at the Coalition, accusing them of negativity, obstruction, and “talking Australia down.” It’s a familiar script. Bowen and his colleagues repeat it daily painting @AngusTaylorMP and @mattjcan as not being “serious people,” while insisting that “serious times call for serious people.”
But this looks less like leadership and more like projection.
From the outset, Bowen and @AlboMP Anthony Albanese dismissed concerns about fuel security. They downplayed the issue, accused motorists of overreacting, and wasted valuable time denying there was a problem instead of acting to mitigate it.
Leadership is tested in the lead-up to a crisis, not after it hits. Once again, Labor’s response has fallen short, exposing a pattern of delay, deflection, and a failure to take responsibility when it matters most.
