I find Jackie Smith rather annoying, just trotting out a script, but think she's right about this: the media has done us a disservice on #DefenceReview as when I read the detail I was seriously impressed with the number of experts contributing to it. #bbcaq

If nuclear weapons are such an effective deterrent, why don't the #UK Government, as part of their #defencereview, not just create one huge, powerful, world destroying bomb? No-one would mess with them then, & they'd save a shitload of cash!

They want your kids to fight their war. The rich and powerful won’t be on the frontlines—but they’ll send working-class youth to die for their interests. £80B for war prep, but nothing for peace, housing, or the NHS. Hell no. We won’t go #DefenceReview #StarmerLies #PMQs #C4News

It adds that the new Defence Research and Evaluation centre’s internal research should “robustly prioritise a small number of national security issues” adding: “Chemical and biological defence. This is the essential and urgent activity.” [...]
Putin biological threat to UK: Salisbury Novichok poisonings were 'wake-up call'

The Novichok poisonings in Salisbury were a “wake-up call” to the threat from Vladimir Putin’s Russia of a chemical or biological attack on Britain’s streets, says Defence Secretary John Healey.
