A lot of autistic people, despite everything, actually like being autistic. Not all, of course. But many. And I don’t just mean ‘making peace with it’. I mean: it's bound up with who we are. A thread 🧵 1/11 (refs at the end) #Autism #ActuallyAutistic #Neurodivergent

Very quick tweet but I now have a formal diagnosis of autism. I want to thank Dan and Phil for being one of my first comforts and spins. Love y'all fr. #actuallyautistic #dnp #phan

The autistic adult feeling of sitting in silence because you once thought you didn't deserve help or support. I sit in reflection thinking about what a terrible feeling that is. #Actuallyautistic.

I want this public. I am #actuallyautistic and I have spent most of my life helping others @dailyecho @DailyMail @guardian @Independent @BBCNews @itvnews @Channel4News and at any journalist who will stand up for me before I die as a result of the shock of this. Fear. Physically ill anyway. Struggle to walk far.

How dare you give a vulnerable autistic person just a day to leave her home after 11 years. Already physically unwell. Leaving me in such shock and fear I fled to my mum in London and had to leave my only comfort. My cat. With her. As she has a huge flat. To leave someone so terrified she collapsed outside her mother's door is horrific @StonewaterCG @StonewaterHomes

Things I wish people understood: 1. My silence isn't rudeness. 2. I’m not ignoring you, I’m overwhelmed. 3. Social energy is finite. Why is this so hard to grasp? 💀 #actuallyautistic

I’ve spent 41 years performing a version of myself that could survive in public. Autistic masking isn’t a coping strategy, it’s an identity theft you do to yourself. #ActuallyAutistic

When people say 'networking,' I’m like, can I just stay home and eat snacks instead? Like, that’s my comfort zone #actuallyautistic

my therapist told me that as an autistic person, i tend to intellectualise my feelings rather than express them; and that my obsession with rationalising emotions, both mine and others', stems from a need to survive situations rather than fully experiencing them.
