When his father passed away, most people advised Narayanan Unny to sell off his ancestral land in Chittur, Palakkad and move away from farming for good. What was it then, that prompted him to do the opposite?
It was the conviction that farming was worth pursuing. He had seen his devote their lives to the farm, and was inclined towards adopting that way of life. He was saddened by the poor reputation associated with farming as an occupation, and wanted to send a message to society: he was choosing to be a farmer and proudly so. If not for this choice, a rare medicinal rice variety called Navara would have faded into oblivion.
