In a letter dated March 27, 2026, marked “very urgent,” Ingonga said the National Police Service had not acted despite clear instructions from his office. He noted that the first directive was issued on January 4, ordering police to carry out a full investigation and submit their findings within seven days. The instructions required officers to record statements from key people, including the developer, contractor, Nairobi City County officials responsible for building approvals, and county compliance officers. However, no files were submitted within the given time. Ingonga sent another letter on February 9 to remind the police of the urgency of the matter, giving them three more days to respond. He said that more than a month later, there was still no communication or submission of the required documents. Due to the continued delay, the DPP has now issued a final demand, giving the police three days to submit the investigation files. He warned that the lack of action was slowing down the process of justice. The delay has raised concerns about accountability, as families of the victims are still waiting for answers. The building collapse also caused major property damage, increasing pressure on authorities to act and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
