Dear American Civil Liberties Union (
@ACLU),
I am writing to urgently request your advocacy regarding the recent USCIS Policy Memorandum (PM-602-0194). Since December 2, this directive has frozen the processing of crucial immigration benefits—including EADs, OPT extensions, H-1Bs, and Adjustment of Status—for individuals from 39 countries, including Iran.
This sudden pause is creating an immediate crisis for legally present students, engineers, scholars, and professionals. These secular individuals underwent rigorous background checks to come here and have contributed significantly to the U.S. economy and academic institutions. Now, many could face the devastating prospect of being forced to leave the U.S. after graduating this May, returning to conditions that put their safety at severe risk, instead of contributing what the U.S. has invested in them back to the American economy.
We earnestly request the
@ACLU to raise its voice. Please urge USCIS and the DHS to lift the hold on academic- and employment-based categories (such as NIW-EB2, EB-1, H-1B, and OPT) for individuals who have fully complied with U.S. laws.
Thank you for your time and your continued defense of civil rights.
Sincerely,
Paryavi,
PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering,
An Engineer who believes in Freedom, Meritocracy, & the USA
