💀🧛🥣 CAP'N RETROVANIA'S SATURDAY MORNING CRUNCH '94 EDITION – COMMERCIAL BREAK CHAOS! 💀🧛🥣
The static crackles across the CRT like a thunderstorm in the crypt...the ABC Saturday morning lineup logo appears... then— BZZZT! —the feed hijacks straight to the Haunted Pizte on a fresh slice!
Yo, Crypt Dwellers, bowl-crushin' latchkey legends, and pizza-gobblin' ghouls! Cap'n Retrovania here, your eternal pizza-slingin' vampire dad, clawin' outta the sarcophagus right in the middle of an epic Saturday morning marathon! We're deep in the slimy guts of Bump in the Night – Episode 1 — Mr. Bumpy's causing total chaos in the bedroom closet, Squishington’s being his lovable blob self, and Molly Coddle is trying (and failing) to keep the peace while the whole house turns into a monster mash!
But freeze the action—commercial break chaos incoming! Grab that overflowing bowl of Cookie Crisp, crank the volume on your possessed VCR, and brace yourselves for the pure '94 neon-fueled toy assault!
The screen erupts with that classic Spider-Man animated series energy, and suddenly we’re blasted into the bustling offices of The Daily Bugle! J. Jonah Jameson is barking orders while Spider-Man swings in to take down the bad guys. The ToyBiz Daily Bugle Playset comes alive with its multi-level building, rooftop helipad, working elevator, and web-slinging action — perfect for epic battles between Spidey, the villains, and that ever-ranting Jameson!
Kids on screen are goin' wild, launching figures from the rooftop, sending the elevator up and down with captured bad guys, and recreating those intense wall-crawling, web-shooting moments straight from the cartoon. The narrator hyped it up with that classic booming voice: “It’s just another day at the Daily Bugle!”
That mustard-yellow plastic skyscraper playset was the ultimate '94 score — a massive headquarters packed with details that turned any bedroom floor into New York City chaos. Swinging Spidey figures into action, trapping foes in the slime pit (if you still had the goo), or just letting Jameson yell at everyone from his office.
Back to you, crypt crew: Who’s still got their ToyBiz Spider-Man Daily Bugle Playset buried in the attic or toy box? (Rooftop helipad, elevator, or that classic Jameson figure still yelling?) Drop your best '94 commercial memory below — fave line from the ad, wildest web-slinging battle you staged, or that one time your Spidey figure “accidentally” took a nosedive off the playset. Tag a fellow latchkey survivor, flood the feed with that Spider-Man: The Animated Series nostalgia, and keep those cereal bowls piled high while we wait for Mr. Bumpy’s next disaster!
We’ll return to Bump in the Night Episode 1 right after these messages — don’t touch that dial, or J. Jonah Jameson might demand a pizza tribute… or worse, call Spider-Man a menace! 🍕🕸️🗞️✨

The screen erupts with that bouncy McDonald's jingle, and suddenly we’re blasted off into Bobby's World! A wild Snap-On Park transforms four everyday toys into twice the fun: the Wagon flips into a radical Race Car, the Inner Tube dives deep as a Submarine, the Three Wheeler blasts off as a Space Ship, and the Skates turn into a screaming Roller Coaster! Little Bobby (with that classic Howie Mandel voice energy) zooms around, laughing his head off while the whole gang joins the chaotic play.
Kids on screen are goin' wild, snapping pieces on and off, mixing and matching the vehicles for maximum backyard adventure. The narrator hyped it up: “McDonald’s lets you blast off into Bobby’s World—where a Snap-On Park turns four toys into twice the fun! One toy with each Happy Meal you buy!”
That colorful little Snap-On set was the ultimate '94 Happy Meal score—transforming everyday kid stuff into wild vehicles, perfect for turning the living room carpet into Bobby’s wild imagination world.
Back to you, crypt crew: Who’s still got their Bobby’s World Snap-On toys (Wagon-Race Car, Inner Tube-Submarine, or that under-3 Bobby in the inner tube) buried in the attic or toy box? Drop your best '94 commercial memory below—fave line from the ad, wildest Snap-On combo you built, or that one time your Wagon-Race Car “accidentally” launched off the coffee table. We’ll return to Bump in the Night Episode 1 right after these messages—don’t touch that dial, or Bobby might blast off with your marshmallows… or worse, demand a pizza tribute! 💀🚀🛼✨

But freeze the action—commercial break chaos incoming! Grab that overflowing bowl of Cookie Crisp, crank the volume on your possessed VCR, and brace yourselves for the pure '94 neon-fueled toy assault!
The screen erupts with that wild Mattel jingle, and suddenly we’re thrust into a grotesque, rotting graveyard scene. A massive severed zombie hand bursts from the dirt, fingers twitching with evil life! Open it up and—WHOA—the whole thing unfolds into a full Doom Zone playset: bones protruding from the wrist, a wriggling maggot crawling across the gash, and twisted tree branches hiding the evil tree spirit Lignin ready to lash out. A shambling corpse figure lurks in the shadows while tiny Mighty Max (in his signature cap) dodges traps and tries to escape the crushing grip of doom!
Kids on screen are goin' wild, staging epic micro-battles: Max flipping across the palm, dodging the zombie’s grasp, and taking on the hulking tree monster. The narrator booms with that classic hype: “Mighty Max Grips the Hand Doom Zone—from Bluebird Toys / Mattel! Can Max crush the hand of evil… or will the hand crush him?! Collect all the Doom Zones and Battle Warriors—sold separately!”
That compact little horror hand was the ultimate pocket-sized nightmare for any '94 kid—gross-out details, surprise unfolding playset, and enough creepy play value to keep you glued through the whole commercial block.
Back to you, crypt crew: Who’s still got their Mighty Max Grips the Hand (or Crushes the Hand) buried in the attic (or backyard time capsule like some legends)? Drop your best '94 commercial memory below—fave line from the ad, wildest micro-battle you staged with the zombie hand, or that one time Lignin “accidentally” got lost under the couch.
After 13 years Japanese PSN user "Tqvry" has finally achieved the platinum in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus for the PS Vita. Long thought to be impossible, now the hardest platinum anyone has EVER achieved. forum.psnprofiles.com/topic/192697-i…

💀🥣🛏️ CAP'N RETROVANIA'S SATURDAY MORNING CRUNCH '94 EDITION 🛏️🥣💀
Yo, Crypt Dwellers, latchkey legends, and CRT glow commandos! Rise & grind—no snooze button survives in the Haunted Pizzeria! It's your eternal pizza-slingin', NES-overlord vampire dad, Cap'n Retrovaniatover Pizza Power Kids Clubhouse with another sugar-fueled, sock-munching blast from the past!
Dust off that possessed VCR, pour yourself a mega-bowl of the crunchiest cereal (extra marshmallows, obviously), and rewind to the gloriously weird world of ABC's 1994 stop-motion masterpiece: Bump in the Night! We're kicking it off with Episode 1: "Made in Japan / Dr. Coddle, M.D." — the chaotic double-header that perfectly launched one of the quirkiest, creepiest, and most delightfully unhinged Saturday morning cartoons ever to hit the airwaves.
Living under (and around) a 10-year-old kid's bed, you've got the core trio:
- Mr. Bumpy — the wild, green, wart-covered monster who treats dirty socks like gourmet deep-dish pizza.
- Squishington (aka Squishy) — the neat-freak blue blob straight outta the toilet tank.
- Molly Coddle — the sweet rag-doll straight-(wo)man with Frankenstein stitches, a heart of gold, and endless patience for her chaotic roommates.
Pure stop-motion madness with over-the-top voices, bizarre inventions, rule-breaking robots like Destructo, and that signature '90s late-night energy that somehow felt right at home on a lazy Saturday morning.
In "Made in Japan," Bumpy's stoked for his mail-order dream toy from a cereal box top — the **Turbo-Totro-Noid** — but the tiny package delivers hilarious culture-clash chaos (complete with Japanese-speaking robot and subtitles for Squishy). Then in "Dr. Coddle, M.D.," Bumpy plays mad scientist by scarfing down Molly's medical books and swapping in home improvement manuals for some truly questionable "treatments." Sock-eating, gooey friendships, and the constant shadow of the Closet Monster lurking nearby — total bump-in-the-night hijinks!
Behind the scenes bite: This gem was created by Ken Pontac and David Bleiman (under Danger Productions, with Greengrass Productions). Pontac even drew early versions of Mr. Bumpy as a kid and later brought that wild energy from his Gumby art director days. The stop-motion animation team included talents like Timothy Hittle (Oscar-nominated animator who's worked with Henry Selick and on Pixar projects). Every frame was painstakingly hand-crafted — those warty textures, gooey movements, and tiny sets didn't animate themselves!
Pure Saturday morning magic: creepy-cute stop-motion, surreal comedy, and junk-food-fueled vibes that glued us to the tube and made us double-check under the bed (just in case the Closet Monster was real).
No Crunch is complete without the tribute shake! Unleash the Bump in the Night Bed Monster Mash — Mr. Bumpy's wild, warty energy in edible form: bumpy on the outside, gooey and delicious inside, pure '90s stop-motion cartoon weirdness! Dropping right during the commercial break, Crypt Squad. Who's pouring the milk and grabbing the remote? 🍕💀🧛♂️
Drop your favorite Bump in the Night memory below — sock-eating champion or Molly's voice of reason? Let's mash it up in the comments! 🛏️🥣

@vancemacabre Do you think they’ll change Nicki’s death in the show? I’ve always thought his name being carved in the crypt was a sort of memorial where they kept his ashes, but now that you made me think about this….no, please
