In fact, I'm hopeful one of the main drivers behind C9 was the sharp increase in overt antisemitism.
@They were protesting a law that has a legitimate chance of charging someone for expressing their faith. How does that make them disgusting scumbags? Section 319 of Bill C9 carries a debated risk due to the removal of a defence for good faith religious expression. Would you still be calling them disgusting scumbags if a Syrian refugee gets arrested for quoting Quran 5:51 which calls Jews the “worst of creatures”?

Freedom of religion is under threat in Canada.
The Liberal party in government wants to make quoting the Bible or any other conservative view hate speech punishable with jail and fees.
The law is called C9, and it’s about the be approved in the senate.

@Martina It appears they are. Canada just approved a bill (C9) Combatting Hate Act. It strengthens laws against hate propaganda & hate-motivated crimes. But the concern is it will be twisted, definitions will vague and will likely be used to make people align with a leftist view. Not cool

That said most Canadian political analysts are almost sure it will become law and expression of faith in public would lead to jail time.

J’ai été empêchée de me rendre au Canada : une entrave préoccupante à l’action parlementaire et à la liberté d’expression.
J’assurerai malgré tout mes deux conférences à distance lundi et mardi soir, ce qui sera pour moi l’occasion de m’exprimer sur cette tentative de censure.

@1/3 of Ca@nadians have no faith that means 2/3rds of Canadians have a faith and Bill C9 took away rights they had until Thursday.
Over 1 million Canadians took the time to sign petitions. Over 100 thousand called. 850 faith groups-Jewish, Hindu, Shik, Muslim and yes, Christian all spoke against it.
