A 2000 year-old mosaic emblema that depicts a woman whose identity is unknown. It is made from polychrome tesserae and was found in Pompeii, where it had been buried for over 1800 years.
The mosaic was found in the Casa della Matrona Ignota in April 1898 and formed the centre of nt Vesuvius erupted and buried Pompeii under pumice and ash. 1809 years later, light shone on this mosaic once again.
