@That's agood example of what not to do. Poor kid is going to grow up hating the water and not trusting his mom. There are better tactics to train a kid to tread water, float, swim, and generally not be afraid of the water: Tell him what we are doing, tell him why, begin in a shallow pool, let him adjust to the water naturally, show him what to do, teach him what to do, watch him do it, etc. Teach him in a natural way first until he can swim before moving on to pop quizzes.
