The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) reports that there is no fuel shortage on the national market, although gasoline is no longer available at the pumps.
In a press release on Saturday, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) informed the general public that "no fuel ved on the national market. Petroleum products are available at gas stations and their distribution is ensured through formally authorized channels."
Consequently, any sale of fuel outside of these channels, particularly in jerrycans or any other container not in compliance with the law, is strictly prohibited throughout the national territory.
The Ministry reiterates that these practices constitute serious offences, likely to disturb public order, endanger the safety of citizens and fuel illicit speculation.
As such, any natural or legal person involved in the illegal sale of fuel will be subject to immediate coercive measures, including the seizure of products, the closure of the points of sale concerned and legal proceedings in accordance with the laws in force.
At several gas stations in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area, the Principal FM team observed the unavailability of the gasoline most commonly used by motorcycle taxi drivers and public transportation vehicles. This situation is impacting the price of basic necessities and the cost of public transportation.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) has instructed the relevant authorities, including inspection services and law enforcement, to ensure the strict and zero-tolerance enforcement of regulations against the illegal sale of fuel within the country. The Ministry also calls on the public to fully cooperate and report any illegal activities.
