Albanian People Smuggling Gang Jailed. Three Albanian men were jailed yesterday for running a people smuggling operation that transported at least 20 fellow countrymen into the UK hidden in lorries, using busy M25 service stations as handover points to evade Border Force checks. Toni Liko, 42, Klement Gjika, 44, and Stelian Bodnariu, 37, were handed sentences totalling 15 years at Southwark Crown Court after a jury convicted them of conspiracy to facilitate breaches of UK immigration law. Liko and Gjika each received five years and eight months, while Bodnariu was jailed for three years and four months. The gang charged each migrant a £11,000 to be concealed in the back of HGVs crossing the Channel before being offloaded and switched into waiting cars or vans at motorway service stations around London. Prosecutors described how migrants were treated like human cargo, crammed into uncomfortable spaces during the crossing and shuffled around at busy service stops. A police source said the racket was purely profit-driven, with the M25 stops designed to avoid port detection. Days earlier at Isleworth Crown Court, three more Albanian men, Endrit Ferizi, Albion Imeraj and a third Albanian national appeared in court charged with a similar people smuggling plot. They allegedly charged people the exact same £11,000 fee to squeeze them into a filthy, airless hiding spot behind the lorry driver's fold down bunk bed for the journey. All three were remanded in custody, with the case still at an early stage and the third man's name not yet released in public reporting. The National Crime Agency and Border Force have ramped up checks on lorries, but experts warn that sophisticated concealment methods like this still continue.
