Today, African Institute for Development Policy (
@AFIDEP), in collaboration with Ministries of Energy (
@EnergyMinK) and Labour (
@LabourSPKE), convened the first Project Advisory Committee (
#PAC) meeting in Machakos County for the Evidence Use in Economic Policymaking in Kenya to understand the common conditions under which government economic policymaking in Kenya is informed by evidence and identify strategic entry points for enhancing evidence use in decision making, focusing on the energy and labour sectors. The evidence generated will advance investments in strengthening technical capacities, structures, and processes for evidence use in economic policymaking in Kenya and the wider sub-Saharan Africa.
At the meeting, the Project Advisory Committee, drawn from the State Departments of Energy and Petroleum (@SDP_KE), Labour and Skills Development, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) (@TVET_MoE), Youth Affairs and Creative Economy (@SDY_Ke), alongside ACCESS Coalition (@ACCESSCSOs), IEET-JKUAT, Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) (@DeKUTkenya), Kenya Youth Climate Advisory Council (@KYCA_Council) and Kenya Private Sector Alliance (@KEPSA_KENYA), provided strategic direction and contextual insights to ensure the study is relevant, credible, and impactful for policy and practice in Kenya. The meeting also promoted cross-sectoral learning, knowledge exchange, collaboration and coordination.
