Thanks to @MLiebreich and all of the other #ProjectBo donors and experts, for being a key part of transitioning from the situation in 2013 where sick newborns shared beds in a crowded general children’s ward with older kids that usually had infectious diseases. Nowadays, they are looked after in a dedicated special care baby unit, which has electricity 98% of the time thanks to the solar power system. This was almost unimaginable when I first arrived in Bo over a decade ago, and the hundreds of babies alive now thanks to all of the kind donors are a great testament to what can be achieved when you have the right team 💪💪👊👊

@cartoonasaurus @wattsupwiththat Tell the babies in Bo. The World Bank has spent 80 years so far trying and failing to build reliable fossil fuel power stations and grid to places like that NICU. We came along and built #ProjectBo in less than a year.

Hard to imagine a more vulnerable human being than a sick or premature baby in Sierra Leone. In 2013 @NICU_doc_salone set up a neonatal ICU in Bo, SL, and his new paper shows how many lives it has saved. I feel privileged to have helped it procure reliable clean power. #ProjectBo

@newnodm @Power4All2025 Refrigeration for vaccines is essential too. But think about oxygen concentrators, ventilators, baby-warmers, X-ray machines, dialysis, any sort of blood analysis - all need electricity. Even light for examinations and procedures. @MLiebreich Thanks Michael. Worrying a lot about Bo lately too, as Freetown are concerned that they’re missing a lot of cases (which I’d say is inevitable!), and they’re much better equipped than Bo! #ProjectBo

@SimoshiUganda In 2018 a bunch of us raised money for a solar/battery power supply for a neonatal intensive care unit in Bo, #SierraLeone. We had to spend $120,000 to power inefficient equipment worth about $15,000! Here is the #ProjectBo story and the lessons learned: projectbo.org/blog/project-b…
